Ties to Mexico
Blankets for Migrants
Ties to Mexico is a monthly fellowship group which uses fleece and flannel fabric to tie multipurpose blankets for migrants. Ties to Mexico works in conjunction with Black Mountain UCC Church, Scottsdale, AZ, and serves migrants already in the US or awaiting asylum at the US/Mexico borders.
The blankets we make are shared primarily with Centro de Esperanza (Center of Hope) a migrant shelter and resource center in Sonoyta, Mexico located 40 miles south of Ajo, Arizona. The resource center provides food, clothing, medical care, legal aid, phones and housing for migrants awaiting to enter the US, which is a process that takes many months.
OPPORTUNITIES TO PARTICIPATE
Blanket Tying
Join us on the second Wednesday of each month as we meet for blanket tying. All supplies are provided, and no special skills are required. Come for caring; come for friendship opportunities.
Monetary Donations to Fund Supplies and Shipping
Monetary donations are welcome, to help fund the purchase of supplies such as fabric and tools, and to help with the costs associated with shipping the finished blankets to Mexico. Donate by check written to Union Church, with “Ties to Mexico” in the memo line.
